The going back to being a kid thing works really well. Especially at kids birthday parties. Be the goofball who plays with the kids. Also, I second the “visualize the event.” I’m gonna do X, and Y, and Z, and then I’m done. I’m leaving. And if I show up and there is no X, Y, or Z, then I just leave.

Thanks Jim! My go-to is sparkling water, but there are so many great alcohol free options now 😊

This is such a great list, Ellie.

The realisation of being introverted rather than extroverted after sobriety was so real for me. I always thought it was the other way around. I had a bit of an identity crisis 😅

Now if I'm socialising past my limit I actually feel similar to what a hangover feels like the next day (even though I had zero alcohol). It's interesting to notice what the body is telling us.

I relate so much Kaitlyn! It definitely can be a huge identity shift when we discover who we really are in sobriety. Thank you so much for sharing your experience ❤️ (and sharing my post 😊) x

Thank you, Ellie, I found these helpful.

My normal trick—if I have to go somewhere boozy—and this isn’t because I don’t trust myself, it’s just because I feel like a lemon without something in my hand: I order a jug of tap water and just refill my pint glass. Saves me money, going to the bar, and I feel comfortable enough pottering about with my glass in my hand. Also I’m the last in—first out, and not the other way around. 😁
