Could tapping help your healing?
I chat to Michelle Doll about how EFT could support people to break free from alcohol
I was introduced to EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) in around 2019 through a life coach I was working with. I found it a really helpful tool in my healing journey. It involves tapping on acupressure points while focusing on a specific issue, belief or fear with the aim to lower anxiety, create relaxation and relief from painful thoughts and experiences.
When I met Michelle at a networking event last year, I began to ponder whether the technique could be helpful in managing cravings and working with the beliefs that can keep us stuck in harmful patterns, like drinking. So I invited her to have a conversation with me to share with all of you: I hope you enjoy it!
NB: At the 32 minute mark you can watch a demo of how you could try EFT when you have a craving for alcohol.

Disclaimer: This conversation, as with everything I share on my Substack, is intended as information only. It is not a substitute for medical advice or mental health care. It could be a helpful modality for you to explore alongside other tools and practices, and may complement support your are currently receiving. It also might not be right for you. Please use discernment and always do your research and consult a mental health professional or doctor before trying any kind of therapy or practices. And if you are concerned you may be physically addicted to alcohol, make sure you speak to your doctor first before cutting down or stopping to ensure you do this safely, as it can be dangerous to suddenly stop if you are physically dependent.
I also wanted to share with you a conversation I had with Claire Fitzsimmons for her A Thought I Kept podcast - you can listen here on Spotify. We talk about the thought I kept years ago that helped transform how I saw myself, and enabled me to break free from alcohol: ‘You’re not broken. There’s nothing wrong with you.’ Have a listen and see what you take away from our chat.
